How to colorize a photo

  1. Choose a print or scan

Use a black-and-white or sepia photograph with clear faces and even lighting. Prepare the photo on your device before uploading it to your private account.

  2. Keep colorization selected

Colorization is selected on this page. You can also repair damage, recover tones or improve face clarity. The standard restoration page lets you keep monochrome instead.

  3. Check the inferred colors

After signing in and reviewing the fee, generate one 2K image. Compare skin, hair, uniforms and backgrounds: the colors are an AI interpretation, not verified historical facts.

Color is an interpretation

A monochrome photo does not contain the original colors. AI can add plausible tones but cannot verify a historical clothing color, skin tone or object detail. Keep the original and label the edited version when appropriate.

Photo colorization questions

Are the restored colors historically accurate?

They are inferred. The tool does not know the original colors, and you should not treat the result as documentary proof.

Can I turn colorization off?

Yes. The option starts selected here but remains editable. Turning it off preserves the source palette while the other selected repair options run.

Does colorization cost extra?

No extra colorization surcharge is added to this edit: one 2K result costs 10 paid credits. Check the final tool fee before starting.

Can I compare the original and result?

Yes. Keep the source photo while editing and use the before/after comparison. Download only after checking the faces and inferred details.
